Method 1: Using Terminal
You can choose to use CLI method to check the serial number on a MacBook System. You just need to open the terminal and type system_profiler SPHardwareDataType
command as shown below. On the output, you will notice Serial Number
mentioned along with other hardware details.

If you would like to ignore other hardware information and only interested in serial number then you can directly grep
it from the output of system_profiler SPHardwareDataType
using system_profiler SPHardwareDataType | grep -i serial
command as shown below.

Method 2: Using GUI
A lot of users prefers to use GUI method to check the serial number instead of checking through terminal. There are few ways through you can check the Serial number from GUI. One of the most quickest way to check is to go to Apple Menu
showing in the left corner of your screen and then click on About This Mac
. You will see serial number on the output as pointed below. Check more on Apple Official website.
Another way to check is through System Information
. You need to search system information
in the search bar
on the top right corner of your screen. As soon as you type system information
, you will see it appearing below. Tap on it to open. By default, it will show Hardware Overview
information under Hardware
